It was during my experience as a Mixx Awards jury member and its first « AI jury » called Pearl (https://youtu.be/6_5QMCQZ1mw) that I started reflecting about Artificial Intelligence (AI). After a presentation at Google about AI and the company who created Pearl (Faction XYZ, www.faction.xyz), I started to read more and more about AI in order to get a better understanding of where we are and where we are going with this crazy good but also dangerous (R)evolution.
Firstly, where are we now?
Pearl, the AI jury, decided to nominate the same winner as “we”, the human jury, chose. That means that artificial intelligence can actually have the same mindset than humans!
This case, “Her Street View” is a perfect example of that: http://herstreetview.com/
Indeed, Faction XYZ explained to us that the actual algorithm of Pearl was based on the past synthesis of winners at the Mixx Awards.
To sum up, the actual AI is a combination of our human decision-making and our sensitive reactions, as rational or less rational as they may be.
Where do we go?
AI is going to be better than humans through its impartiality and its ability to take more information into account. The aim of AI is not to be like humans but to become better than humans, which is amazing but also frightening at the same time!
Where does that leave us?
I don’t always agree with Elon Musk but I have to admit that I do agree with him on this subject. The further and deeper we delve into AI, the better we need to instate legislations to act respectively on AI. “Because the speed of technological innovation exceeds our ability to absorb the effects.”
